We believe water baptism is a symbol of Jesus’s burial and resurrection. Every baptism in the Bible was by immersion under water. The word “baptize” comes from the Greek word “baptizein,” which means “to immerse or dip under water.”

Jesus Himself was baptized. He wasn’t a sinner, but He humbled himself in obedience to identify with us and give us an example to follow.

At that time Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. Just as Jesus was coming up out of the water, He saw heaven being torn open and the Spirit descending on Him like a dove. And a voice came from heaven: “You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.” — Mark 1:9-11

What is Child Dedication? Is it like baptism? Child dedication is very different from baptism. Dedication is the parents’ declaration of blessing over their child’s life. We offer children to God in prayer the same way Hanna offered up the young prophet Samuel in order to dedicate his life to God. Inevitably your child will become of age and can accept Jesus Christ as their Savior on their own. At that moment of salvation, anyone can then make a public declaration of their faith through Baptism.
